Growing up, Avery Moore was always a strong-willed child.
“If my mom was reading a parenting book, I would read it too, then do the opposite so I couldn’t be put in a box,” said Moore. “I always thought I’d be an attorney or something that my personality would lend itself to. But, fate has a funny way of pointing you down a different direction.”
After attending college at Oklahoma State University and a three year stint in Louisville, KY, Moore realized there wasn’t anything quite like home and moved back to Oklahoma.
“When I moved home, I just needed a gig to pay the rent,” said Moore. “My family goes back three generations in insurance. So, the obvious answer was to get a job in the industry.”
Moore first worked at a bank-owned agency, where she fell in love with insurance. There, she saw insurance as a way to make a meaningful impact on the world.
“It could save people’s lives,” said Moore. “It could save something that a person has worked their entire life to build. There is something redeeming about that.”
After a couple years, Moore moved to her family’s agency and continued the legacy her grandfather started years ago.
“One Saturday, I received a call at about six in the morning,” said Moore. “A daycare I insured was burning to the ground. I pulled up to this business that my friend had sacrificed to grow and build. It is devastating to see someone’s dreams go up in literal flames. As we watched it slowly burn I held her hand and I got to make a promise that I would put her back together because I had done my job.”
A year later, they stood inside a brand new building and both cried as everything came full circle.
“We get fulfillment from moments like that,” said Moore. “When I need to remember why I do what I do, I go back to that moment.”
