Kelly Becker was a traveler from birth who spent her early childhood in Bolivia. Her experiences in the South American country eventually led her to a Master’s degree in Spanish Culture and Civilization with stops along the way in Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil.
After calling Kansas her home base for several years, she decided to move to Connecticut for the ocean views, crisp New England autumns, and proximity to an international airport.
“I think of myself as a Spanish teacher gone rogue,” said Becker. “I taught Spanish for six years to elementary and college students and loved it, but I was ready for something new and challenging.”
Like most people, Becker got into insurance by accident.
“By fate, I met our principal agent by renting out his apartment when I first moved from Kansas,” said Becker. “I told him ‘Now all I need is a job!’”
Working in insurance allowed her to combine her love for people, learning, and Spanish every day.
“It has worked out so well,” said Becker. “I feel it was meant to be.”
Three years into her insurance career, part of a client’s newly renovated home was crushed by a large tree.
“It was terrible for him,” said Becker. “But I was so happy we had given him the right coverage so he could get back on his feet.”
For Becker, it was like a light bulb came on as she realized she had the ability to confidently serve her clients and act as their trusted adviser.
“I am helping people by advising them on how to protect their most precious assets!” said Becker. “I finally felt a true sense of pride for what I do.”
At the end of the day, her favorite part of working in the insurance industry is the people.
“I love meeting people, working with people, listening to their stories,” said Becker. “And trying to figure out how we can take care of them.”
